Michael Cooks, 28, of 2846 Express Blvd., hit the front door of Go Bear’s Food Mart, 551 S. Van Ave., with his green Chevrolet Tahoe, causing significant damage to both the business’ entrance and the SUV, Houma Police Lt. Dana Coleman said.
An employee of the business also reported being injured, but details of the injuries weren’t available, Houma Police Chief Todd Duplantis said.
Cooks had driven to the business with a woman who went inside to buy gas, police said. As he waited in the parking lot for her to return, he moved from the passenger’s seat to the driver’s side and allegedly rammed the car into the business.
Cooks ran from the store and threw a plastic bag into a storm drain as he fled, police said. He was later arrested on South Van Avenue, and the bag was recovered and found to be full of marijuana, Coleman said.
He was a booked on charges that included hit-and-run driving, reckless operation, possession of marijuana and driving without insurance. Cook also had three outstanding warrants.
He is in the Terrebonne Parish Jail on a $50,000 bond. He also has a $1,500 bond on a domestic abuse charge and a $100 bond on failure to appear in court.
