Saturday at approximately 8:45 p.m., the Abbeville Police Department responded to a complaint of a female who was abducted and held at knife point while returning to her vehicle from shopping at a local grocery store.
Upon the officer’s arrival, they were advised that a black male subject held a female a knife point and forced her into her vehicle and threatened to harm her if she did not drive him away from the grocery store. The victim, who fought with the suspect, was able to open her passenger door and yell for help.
When the suspect observed people coming to the victim’s aid, he ran from her vehicle taking her purse.
The victim gave a physical description of the suspect who held her at knife point and took her purse and also gave a description of the vehicle which he left the scene in.
The Abbeville Police Department contacted other law enforcement agencies and gave them the descriptions of the suspect and the vehicle that he fled in.
Not long after the information was given to the surrounding agencies, the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Department notified the Abbeville Police Department that they were on a traffic stop with a vehicle fitting the description given, in nearby Erath. Officers of the Abbeville Police Department met with the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s deputy who had detained the driver, now known as Chester Montgomery, 38, of Youngsville. While on the scene of the vehicle, officers located a purse fitting the description of the purse taken during the abduction of the female. The officers checked the purse and found items inside the purse containing the victim’s name.
Chester Montgomery was then booked on the charges of Attempted Aggravated Kidnapping and Armed Robbery. He was then transported to VPCC where he awaits bond on the charges.
Anyone having information in this matter is asked to contact the Abbeville Police Department at 337-893-2511.
The Abbeville Police Department would also like to thank the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Department for their assistance in this investigation.
