Busted In Acadiana

 According to a press release by the Lafayette City Police Department, on March 13, 2013, at approximately 7:45 am, Lafayette Police responded to a business in the 3100 block of Ambassador Caffery Parkway regarding a person inside of the business with a weapon. According to employees, the male suspect was observed inside of the store carrying a pistol in a holster on his hip. A manager approached the suspect and asked that he leave the store with the weapon. The suspect refused, explaining that he was shopping. Employees with the store contacted police regarding the incident. When officers arrived on scene the suspect had made a purchase and was departing the parking lot in a black Mercury. Officers interviewed the suspect regarding the carrying of a firearm within the store. During the investigation a stolen pistol was discovered in the suspect’s vehicle. Police arrested Joshua Dore (28) of Lafayette and charged him with Possession of a Stolen Firearm. Police also took possession of two additional pistols and a rifle until such time that Dore can prove ownership. The case remains under investigation.

So what was the probable cause to detain or search and seize a weapon that was allegedly stolen?
