Busted In Acadiana

A granny was charged with first-degree vehicular homicide after a passenger in the vehicle she was driving died from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash according to the American Press.

State Police Troop D spokesman James Anderson says, around 7:15 p.m. March 1, a vehicle driven by Millie Powell, 74, of Port Arthur, Texas, was traveling north on La. 109, when it struck the rear of another vehicle that was lawfully stopped and waiting to turn into a private driveway.

Anderson said 92-year-old Rubye Jones, also of Port Arthur, was riding in the car with Powell and was transported from the scene to a hospital with moderate injuries. Jones died on March 3.

Powell was charged on the night of the crash with DWI, careless operation, expired driver’s license and first-degree vehicular negligent injury. She was not booked into jail due to her injuries.

Powell was arrested Thursday by State Police and her bond was set at $30,000. Thevehicular homicide charge replaces the previous charge of first-degree vehicular negligent injury.
