Car stolen with child inside in front of Louisiana daycare
The search is on for a man who police say stole a car from a Shreveport daycare with a 7-year-old child inside according to KSLA.
The incident happens around 11 today in the Sunset Acres neighborhood.
The mother of the child, Meshona Houston told the news station that she left her 7-year-old daughter in the car and ran inside to drop another child off.
When she looked out the window, she says she saw a man getting into her car. By the time she got outside, he was behind the wheel and driving off with her daughter inside. Houston says she managed to grab the driver’s side door handle in an attempt to stop the man, only to be dragged several feet before having to let go.
She says she was able to take note of the direction he was heading. Meanwhile, witnesses at the daycare called police.
Houston’s black Mercedes C230 was found a short time later with the child inside just a few blocks away in the 3000 block of Amherst Street. Neighbors who heard the little girl crying got her out of the car and called police.
7-year-old Madison is shaken, her mother says, but ok. Houston was treated at the scene for cuts and bruises from being dragged. Both she and her daughter were able to give police a description of the man who took the car.
Houston says the man did take off with her purse.
Police are looking in the area for a black male in his 20s, about 6’2″ with a slender build, light complexion, wearing a dark khaki pants and a long-sleeve denim shirt and a hat.
Police are also processing the car in hopes of coming up with fingerprints that will help identify a suspect.
If identified and arrested, he will face both carjacking and kidnapping charges.
