Armed with a bat, an Abbeville dad is accused of letting his daughter fight with 9-year-old girl

An Abbeville dad thought the best way to settle a problem between his 10-year-old daughter and a 9-year-old female neighbor was to let them fight it out. Bad idea, because it resulted in him and his daughter getting arrested by the Abbeville Police Department.

The Abbeville Police Department responded to a call from a citizen who lives near 1108 Graceland Street where two girls fought before leaving for school that morning. When the police arrived, the fight was over.

The police began asking questions about what occurred. According to witnesses, Wesley Laviolette, 33, let his 10-year-old daughter fight with the 9-year-old before they got on the school bus.

To make sure the mother of the 9-year-old did not stop the fight, he held a baseball bat in his hand. When the mother saw her daughter, fighting, she ran to the fight and tried to stop it The mother, according to the police report, was threaten by Laviolette with the bat telling her not to touch the girls.

The police report states that Laviolette threatened the mother if she stopped the fight. The fight was eventually stopped before police arrived.

An investigation by the police located the baseball bat.

Laviolette was charged with disturbing the peace, contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile and aggravated assault.

The 10-year-old girl was charged with simple battery because of the fight. The 9-year-old was not charged.

The two were booked by the police and bonded out that morning.
