In the early morning hours of February 2, 2013, St. Martin Parish Deputies responded to the report of a kidnapping of a man in rural St. Martinville. According to authorites, a vehicle pursuit ensued and two suspects fled on foot on Wilfred Champagne Road in St. Martinville.
Several hours later, Deputies with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested Bryan Briscoe 35, of Lafayette. Briscoe was arrested and booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center on Second Degree Kidnapping, Resisting an Officer and Armed Robbery. His bond was set at $250,000.00
On February 5, 2013, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Violent Offender Task Force and the Lafayette City Marshals, Investigators with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested a second suspect in connection with this incident, Robert Derik Batiste 41, of St. Martinville. Batiste was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on Attempted 1st Degree Murder, Armed Robbery, Second Degree Kidnapping and Aggravated Flight from an Officer. On February 7, 2013 Robert Batiste was transported and booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center. His bond was set at $500,000.00.
