A new alcohol-busting pill can sober you up in just a matter of seconds, no matter how drunk you are. This new pill mocks the enzymes in your liver which breaks down the alcohol, but instead of hours, this is a speedy version rendering you almost instantly sober, according to “Fox and Friends” live on Monday morning, Feb. 18, 2013.

According to the Deccon Herald on Monday, the new alcohol-busting pill was created by a group of researchers who developed a mix of alcohol metabolizing enzymes. So far it’s quickly reduced the blood alcohol levels in mice and shows much promise for humans down the line.

The treatment is like having millions of liver cells in your stomach that break down the alcohol, like your liver does, but only much quicker. This new medication does in a matter of seconds what would normally take your liver hours to do.

University of Southern California researchers, Yunfeng Lu and Cheng Jifrom, injected intoxicated mice with nanocapsules containing two enzymes. Oxidase is one of the enzymes, but it produces the by-product of hydrogen peroxide, which can be harmful. The other enzyme works at decomposing the hydrogen peroxide, so given in tandem, these two enzymes aren’t harmful.

This is a new class of drugs, which is called an alcohol antidote and while it is not ready to be tested on humans as of yet, it has far-reaching implications for drinkers. The medicine, when ready for human consumption, will be taken in a form of a pill.
