Sheriff Louis Ackal advises that on February 7, 2013 at approximately 7:30 a.m. Deputies with the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office Hazardous Material Unit responded to the 1100 block of Cherokee Street in reference to person being in possession of an incendiary device. Deputies learned that the suspect, Thadeus Hurst (DOB 09/24/1986 of 1101 Cherokee Street, New Iberia), threw the incendiary device at his neighbor while the two were having a verbal altercation. The suspect then threatened to throw an incendiary device inside of the victim’s residence. Deputies arrived on scene and placed Hurst under arrest. Deputies were assisted by the Louisiana State Police Haz-Mat Division. Hurst was charged with manufacturing and being in possession of a bomb, manufacturing and possessing a delayed action incendiary device, communication of false information of planned bomb on within a school zone or firearm free zone, arson and use of explosives and terrorizing. Hurst was booked into the Iberia Parish Jail. No injuries were reported during the incident.
