Late last week detectives announced the arrest of a suspect in connection with the death of a 3-year-old boy last week.
Timothy Reed, 34, is the boyfriend of the child’s mother. He was located Thursday afternoon at a New Orleans East motel. Investigators said they found him hiding in a bathroom.
A multi-agency effort led to Reed’s arrest. Officials said he admitted taking the boy with him on Mardi Gras and being with him at the time of his death, but they don’t believe the confession was “completely truthful.”
Reed will be charged with the killing of Desmond Brown, who was found inside a home in the 2000 block of Rue Racine in Marrero.
An autopsy determined the boy died of homicidal asphyxiation. Gasoline was found at the home, as well.
Reed was booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center on one count each of first degree murder, attempted first degree murder, attempted aggravated arson along with attachments for domestic battery and non-payment of child support.
He also has an extensive arrest record, including charges or murder, child abuse and rape.
