Napolenville – On January 31, 2012, a patrol deputy was on routine patrol when he got behind a vehicle travelling 30 mph in a 55 mph zone. He then observed the vehicle cross the centerline near the intersection of highway 308 and spur 70. Once he activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop, the vehicle began to speed up to approximately 90 mph. He sped through the Bertrandville area down several streets in Assumption Parish and then eventually made it back onto highway 70 and proceeded into Ascension Parish at a very high rate of speed while committing several additional traffic violations. The subject travelled north on highway 1at speeds exceeding 100 mph and eventually entered into Iberville Parish where he began to slow down and pull onto the shoulder of the highway. The subject then began to make a u turn and another deputy assisting in the pursuit attempted to box the vehicle in order to end the pursuit. The subject did not slow and slammed his vehicle into the passenger side of the patrol car causing considerable damage. The deputy exited his patrol vehicle and discharged 3 rounds into one of the tires of the vehicle in an effort to disable the vehicle. The vehicle stopped shortly thereafter and the subject was taken into custody by 2 Assumption Parish Deputies. The arresting Deputy could smell a strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from the subject’s breath and noticed there was an open beer bottle inside the vehicle. Deputies also found a gun in a brown paper bag and the gun was taken for safe keeping. After being processed and booked in Iberville Parish as a fugitive, he was transported to the Assumption Parish Detention Center. Since the subject refused a field sobriety test and a breath analyzer test, a judicial warrant was obtained and blood was drawn from the subject for further testing by Louisiana State Police Crime Lab.
