Diocese of Lafayette Bishop Michael Jarrell issued a statement Monday morning about the shooting death of a teenager over the weekend.
“My heart is greatly saddened by the recent shooting incident involving three Catholic school students,” the statement said.
“I extend sincere sympathy to the family of Austin Rivault, who died as a result of his wounds. May he rest in peace. I pray for the students who were wounded, for their families and for all who are affected by this tragic incident. I pray for God’s gift of peace in the heats of all in the community.”
Rivault is one of three teens who was shot early Sunday morning on Green Meadow Boulevard in Lafayette.
Rivault died as a result of his injuries, while the driver and another passenger of the pikcup truck are listed in stable condition.

Lafayette Police arrested Seth Fontenot of Lafayette yesterday chargining him with First Degree Murder and two counts of Attempted First Degree Murder.
The Affidavit for Mr Fontenot’s arrest say he “confessed to firing his gun at a fleeing vehicle, which he believed contain the suspects he had seen on his property as well as his neighbor’s property at the time of the incident.” Read additional details on the warrant for Fontenot’s arrest here.
