Busted In Acadiana

A Golden Meadow woman sparked a multi-agency search when she fled to the swamp and later lied about being kidnapped, raped, delivering a baby and having the baby stolen according to Houma Today.

Kelly Brown, 34, on South Bayou Court, is charged with criminal mischief, detectives said.

The Golden Meadow Police Department contacted Terrebonne deputies at 6 this morning about a pregnant woman being missing and that 911 operators had tracked her cellphone to a swamp in Chauvin, the Sheriff’s Office said. Deputies later found her vehicle abandoned in the area.

Airboats, a dozen law enforcement officers and a helicopter searched the swamp and found Brown in the swamp, Terrebonne detectives said. She was partially clothed.

She told the search team that a man she didn’t know had kidnapped her out of Golden Meadow, forced her to drive to Houma, led her to the swamp and raped her, Terrebonne detectives said. She spontaneously delivered the baby, she told them, and he stole the baby.

Later, however, she admitted to investigators that she lied about everything because her family thought she was pregnant and she did not know how to tell them that she was not.

Late this morning, Brown was on her way to the Terrebonne Parish jail.
