Two men were arrested and charged with disturbing the peace and fighting after locking themselves out of a home and using an ax to get back in.

According to sheriff’s office reports, at 11:56 p.m. on Dec. 31, RPSO received a call about men forcing entry into a residence with an ax in the 8500 block of U.S. La. Hwy 71 North in Tioga.

After speaking to witnesses, deputies arrested Joseph McCartney, 25, and Travis Barlow, 25, both of 8518 La. Hwy 71 North in Tioga. Deputies say both men appeared to be intoxicated when they were found them fighting in the yard.

Barlow told deputies that he went outside and started wrestling with McCartney and ran inside the residence with McCartney’s keys to his vehicle, according to the report.  Deputies say the two men locked themselves in the back bedroom and McCartney attempted to make entry back into the house using an ax.

McCartney and Barlow were placed under arrest for disturbing the peace by fighting and transported to the Rapides Parish Detention Center and booked. They were later released on a $250 bond.
