According to police, Jaramillo engaged in a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student while she was a teacher at Northridge High School in Layton.
Investigators say Jaramillo taught social studies at the school between 2001 and 2009. The alleged sexual relationship took place during the 2003-2004 school year.
Police believe the sexual encounters took place at locations in Clinton and Layton.
An investigation was launched in February 2012, after the former student came forward and told detectives that he had been involved in a sexual relationship with the teacher while he was a student at the school.
Police did not know why the alleged victim waited to report the activity.
Jaramillo was booked into jail and charged with three counts of rape and three counts of forcible sexual abuse.
