Sheriff’s Office blocks BIA for questioning misleading crime stats
Now why would a department with nothing to hide have any reservations about answering the tough questions?
After St. Landry Parish Crime Stoppers released their questionable crime stats yesterday, we couldn’t help but inquire why violent crimes were excluded.
We specifically inquired why the department wasn’t releasing information about their uniform crime reporting back to the FBI which generally contains all murders, rapes, robberies, assaults, burglaries, thefts, auto thefts and arsons.
Unfortunately, the administrator of the Sheriff’s Office Facebook page took offense to our questioning and deleted our comment, then banned us from the page.
Below is their idea of Crime Stats…
Their idea of crime stats were:
January 1, 1012-December 31, 2012
Residential burglary- 303
Disturbances- 1,935
Thefts- 903
Auto Thefts- 64
Juvenile incidents- 215
Burglary of business- 50
Let’s hope the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office isn’t doing what the Lafayette City Police has been accused of, manipulating crime stats in and effort to create a false sense of security. Read more about that mischief here.
