Who Is Wanted?

Keana Barnes

Police are offering $1000 in exchange for information leading to the arrest of a woman who escaped the Louisiana Correctional Institute for Women at about 1 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2013. Keana Barnes, 33, was serving a 25-year sentence for manslaughter and “is considered armed and dangerous,” according to a press release from the Department of Public Safety and Corrections.

Barnes is 5-foot-4 and weighs 140 pounds and is from the New Orleans-area. She has dark brown hair and brown eyes, according to the press release.
Circumstances surrounding the escape are still under investigation, according to the press release. K-9 search teams from Elayn Hunt Correctional Facility are assisting DOC in the search.

According to a story, Barnes was arrested in April 2004 in Mexico by U.S. Marshals after she shot and killed Perry Jennings Jr. of Algiers. She’d previously been booked with the stabbing death of an Irish Bayou man in April 2002 but was released after no charges had been made in the 60 days she was jailed.

Officials ask that any tips as to Barnes’ whereabouts be directed toward the LCIW Control Center at 225-319-2300.
