Back on November 15th, 2012, we were the first and only local news source to report that Philip D. deMahy, 51, of 215 Ashton Street in New Iberia who is the brother of 16th Judicial District Judge Paul deMahy was arrested on Child Pornography charges.
Today deMahy pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography, announced Louisiana Attorney General Buddy Caldwell.
According to the Attorney General’s office deMahy entered a plea of guilty to 10 counts of possession of pornography involving juveniles. Mr. deMahy, an advertising executive, was booked into the New Iberia Parish Jail on November 5, 2012, after state and federal agents discovered a variety of child pornography on his computer, however there was NO LOCAL NEWS COVERAGE ON THE INCIDENT.
The guilty plea was accepted by Judge Charles Porter. Judge Porter ordered a pre-sentence investigation and will sentence deMahy on April 4. Each count of possession of child pornography carries a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in the Louisiana Department of Corrections.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General David Weilbaecher, Jr. and was the result of an investigation conducted by Louisiana State Police with assistance from the FBI.
On December 3rd, 2012, The Independent Monthly also questioned why deMahy’st arrest didn’t result in the issuance of a press release like similiar arrest for child pornography throughout the state including here, here, here and here .
