A 51-year-old man was arrested in the aggravated rape and aggravated burglary of a 83-year-old woman in Marrero.
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office said they were called to the scene of an aggravated rape in the 400 block of Avenue L in Marrero on Sunday.
According to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office, the elderly woman told police she returned to her home to find Kenneth Adams in her living room. Adams forced her to her bedroom, raped her, stole jewelry from her bedroom and fled.
When deputies were notified of the crime, they found Adams walking in the 6600 block of the Westbank Expressway. He attempted to flee, police said, but he was quickly apprehended on Salmone Street at Ames Boulevard. Police said he struggled, but was ultimately placed in handcuffs.
Investigators found a crack pipe in Adams’ possession.
After being questioned by detectives, Adams admitted to the burglary and physically touching the victim below her waist, but denied raping her.
Adams was arrested on charges of aggravated rape, aggravated burglary, simple battery, resisting arrest, battery of a police officer, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of stolen property.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Adams was also arrested on an unrelated robbery warrant.
Investigators said Adams has an “extensive prior criminal history” with arrests on charges including simple robbery, battery of a police officer, multiple narcotics violations, possession of stolen property and theft.
