Lake Charles man accused of cruelty to a juvenile

On Jan. 23, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a local middle school after receiving a complaint from school officials regarding John P. Carter, 44, of Lake Charles, physically abusing a 15-year-old who is a student at the school.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered Carter struck the victim in the face, bit him on his arm, and also slammed the victim’s ankle in a vehicle door causing swelling. The victim was treated at a local hospital and released.
Carter was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with one count of cruelty to a juvenile.
Judge Wilford Carter set his bond at $3,000.
