Charges upgraded against thug accused of beating room mate
The Lafayette Police Department has reported that the victim of an attempted second degree murder has died as a result of her injuries at a local hospital.
Gabrielle Spencer, an 18-year-old from Lafayette, has died from injuries. Police responded to a call at 11 a.m. Wednesday morning to a female victim being unresponsive.
Adam Batiste, a 24-year-old of Lafayette, was arrested for attempted second degree murder, the LPD reported in a press release.
Detectives have upgraded the charges against Batiste to second degree murder. The investigation remains ongoing.

Officers with the Lafayette Police Department said they arrested a 24-year-old man after responding to a call regarding a female victim being unresponsive.
Officers responded to a call at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16 at Morning Glory Square. Once they arrived, officers discovered the victim had sustained severe bruising on her body, according to a press release from the LPD. The victim was transported to an area hospital where she remains in critical condition.
After an investigation, LPD said they arrested Adam Batiste for attempted second degree murder. Batiste was living in the residence.
The case remains under investigation.
