Former Jennings Chief accused of stealing from evidence room
A former Jennings police officer and former Chief of Police has been charged with theft over $1,500, malfeasance in office, obstruction of justice and injuring public records, state police said.
Troop D spokesman Sgt. James Anderson told the America Press that 52-year-old Johnny Lassiter was arrested Friday after an investigation by state police and the Jennings Police Department.
Anderson said Lassiter, who was a police officer until his resignation on Tuesday, has been accused of stealing items from the Jennings evidence room.
