According to reports, Lafayette District Attorney Mike Harson has filed formal charges against a Lafayette man accused of drunk driving and killing a Lafayette woman.

Did Harson really have a choice considering the media coverage?

Fred ‘Brad’ Dutton Jr., 23, is charged with vehicular homicide, OWI, and disobeying traffic control signals.

His arraignment is scheduled for February 19. Dutton ran a red light and crashed into 22-year-old Rachael Sonnier’s vehicle on Thanksgiving Eve in 2012. Sonnier died at the scene.

Dutton was initially charged with OWI, but the charge was upgraded after toxicology test results showed his alcohol level was over the legal .08 limit.
