According to KATC, two stolen laptops gave Port Barre Police the break they needed while trying to solve a rash of home burglaries. Leonard Julien Thomas, 49, is charged with burglary and felony theft after trying to sell two stolen laptops to a pawn shop in Opelousas, according to Police Chief Deon Boudreaux. “Pawn shop employees notified authorities that Leonard Julien Thomas had been in there store trying to sale two lap top computers but left when the shop refused to buy them. Port Barre police then went to Julien Thomas’ home and received consent to search the home,” Boudreaux said.
Chief Boudreaux said he’s added extra patrols since burglaries began. “We have added extra officers to the patrol shifts, and even purchased a couple of police bicycles to help officers patrol neighborhoods without being noticed,” he said. He expects more arrests.
