On January 19, at approximately around 8:30 p.m., a Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy was patrolling the area of N. Shattuck Street and Opelousas Street in Lake Charles and conducted a stop on a car driven by George Joseph, 61, 2001 6thStreet, Lake Charles for a traffic violation.
When the deputy approached the car and spoke with Joseph, he detected a strong odor of alcohol emitting from his breath, as well as very slurred speech, and he appeared very unsteady on his feet. Joseph advised the deputy that he had been drinking prior to driving.
After refusing to perform a standard field sobriety test, Joseph was transferred to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, where a breath intoxilzer test revealed he was over the legal limit.
Joseph, who was convicted of DWI 3rdin Calcasieu Parish in November 2011, was arrested and booked into Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with DWI 4th; and driving while under suspension for DWI.
Judge Ron Ware set Joseph’s bond at $16,000.
