A woman who was arrested last week in relation to a year old murder case was shot and killed this afternoon, by federal law enforcement, according to the woman’s son.
Trampus Bernard told Avoyelles Today that his mother, Larane Pierce, was killed at the site of the Marcel’s Upholstery business north of Marksville about 3 p.m. Bernard, who was waiting a few houses away for other families to arrive, said he was told his mother had arrived at the the shop about an hour before the shooting. He said authorities were trying to serve her with a warrant for her arrest, allegedly, for some sort of weekend burgulary on Acton Road in Marksville. He said he was told authorities broke down a back door and said she was holding a gun, but was not pointing it at them. However, the investigation was still ongoing, and the body was still in place as of 4 pm. A member of the Avoyelles coroners office was on hand, along with Sheriff Doug Anderson and Marksville Police Chief Ellis Walker.
Pierce was recently charged with Accessory after the Fact in the 2011 murder of Christine Mayeaux of Marksville. She had been released from the Avoyelles Detention Center on a $50,000 property bond.
U.S. Marshal’s Task Force Involved In Shooting
Earlier this afternoon, a member of the U.S. Marshal’s Violent Offender Task Force was involved in a shooting in Marksville, LA.
The shooting occurred around 2:00 p.m. at 857 LA Hwy 1191, Marksville, LA. Members of the U.S. Marshal’s Violent Offender Task Force were attempting to serve an arrest warrant, for armed robbery, on Larane Pierce (W/F 51 yrs). Upon entering the building and encountering Pierce, Pierce was fatally shot by a member of the task force.
The Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations/Alexandria Field Office responded to the scene at the request of the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Department to investigate the incident. An investigation is ongoing at this time.
There has been a report of a shooting at a business on La. Highway 1191 in Marksville. Allegedly, one person, a woman, has been killed. The shooting happened about one hour ago around 3 p.m. and involved law enforcement officers and a person. More details will follow as they become available.
