Who Got Busted?

Home Invasion

According to KLFY TV-10, Opelousas Police are searching for a man accused of home invasion and sexual assault. On Wednesday morning, a young woman, who has yet to be identified, called police after coming home from work to find an intruder in her home. She was bound with duct tape and then raped. Her infant child was present during the attack. The attacker fled the C and L Apartments, located on the corner of Coleman and Market streets. The location is within walking distance of North Elementary which was placed on lockdown for two hours while police searched the area.

Police Chief Perry Gallow believes the suspect was waiting for the victim with the intention of physically attacking her. Detectives are in the initial stages of the investigation, gathering evidence, including the attacker’s description and point of entry.

“There was no forced entry. ” Gallow stated, “However, there was a window that was found open.”

Gallow says an attack of this magnitude has not happened in the city in several years, and urges the public to call police if they see anything suspicious.

“Don’t think it’s not important. Call the police if you see someone near someone’s apartment or home, and if you see someone suspicious.”

The suspect is described as a 6’1 black male, medium to dark skin tone. He was wearing dark clothing and a ski mask at the time of the attack. Contact the Opelousas Police Department at 948-2500.
