The last thing a mother wants to do is discover her son lying prone in a pool of blood in her home. But that was the scene when Louise came home from a Christmas party early Thursday afternoon.
Louise arrived at her front door on South Lamar Street to see a foot print on the door where it had been kicked in. She walked in, saw blood on the floor and thought her son, Darrell Broussard Jr. had cut himself and was bleeding. But she continued to walk into the house and saw her son on the floor, lying in a pool of blood.
Broussard was pronounced dead by Vermilion Parish Coroner Dr.Myriam Hutchinson just after three p.m.
The Abbeville Police are not saying how Broussard, in his early 20s, was killed.
With still 10 days left in 2012, Broussard’s murder is No. 7 for Abbeville. It is also the fourth homicide in four weeks in Abbeville.
A week ago today Kyle Trahan was murdered in his home on Eaton Drive. No one has been arrested for that murder.
The Abbeville police are also investigating the death of a three-month old baby that died in a Baton Rouge hospital. The cause of death is trauma to the head.
Last month, Joecoby Walker, 23, was shot and killed by a person holding a revolver. Dedrick Maze was arrested and charged with Walker’s murder.
Over the summer, two people were killed not far from each other.
Rita Jordan was stabbed multiple times in her home, and Paul Rice Jr. was shot in the head while he sat outside at a friend’s home. Police have not made an arrest for either murder.
Broussard’s murder was within a block of where Jordan and Rice were killed.
Abbeville City Councilman Wayne Landry is tired of the murders in his district.
“I do not have an answer,” Landry said.
The year began with a homicide when three teens robbed and murdered a man on Jan. 12. Not long after the crime occurred, the three were arrested.
