Child beheading trial delayed again
A hearing to determine the competency of a man accused of beheading his son has been pushed back a third time.
The Daily Comet says, Jeremiah Wright, 31, of Thibodaux, must be deemed mentally competent before he can stand trial on charges he decapitated 7-year-old Jori Lirette last year.
The hearing, originally scheduled for Thursday, was moved to Jan. 29, prosecutors said.
Wright’s defense attorneys asked for the extension, court records show.
Wright remains in the Lafourche Parish jail on a first-degree murder charge in lieu of a $5 million bond.
