A mother and her boyfriend have both been arrested in connection with the death of a three-year-old boy earlier today.
Earlier this morning, deputies with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office were called to 3706 Kaliste Saloom Road in regards to an unresponsive child.
Deputies and paramedics conducted CPR on the child, but he was pronounced dead shortly after being brought to Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
According to police 21-year-old Landon Broussard has driven some distance to his grandmother’s house, carrying the severly bruised, naked body of the lifeless 3-year-old boy.
According to the affidavit obtained by KATC,
Broussard told his grandmother a door had fallen on the boy. She called 9-1-1 hoping he could be revived, but it was too late. After further investigation, police say the boy had suffered severe blunt force trauma to the head, face and neck. He also had a split lip, part of one ear was torn, and there were also apparent traumatic injuries to the boy’s privates. Detectives searched the home of Broussard and what they found is quite disturbing. In the childs bedroom, police found a red face, print they believe to be blood, five feet off the ground. They also found a shirt with blood on the collar and several bloodied hand towels in Broussards’ truck. Police say injuries on the boys body revealed that some were much older and some were new.

Broussard has been charged with first degree murder. The child’s mother Laura Smith, 22 of Lafayette Parish was also arrested and charged with principle to first degree murder.
