Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre reported the arrest of a Raceland man for allegedly stabbing another man following an argument early Sunday morning. Deputies located and arrested Gerardo Sanchez (H/M, D.O.B. 03/17/82) of 640 St. Louis Street, Apartment 2, shortly following the incident.
Through investigation, deputies learned Sanchez and the other man were at an apartment on St. Louis Street late Saturday night when the two got into an argument for unknown reasons. Following the argument, Sanchez allegedly stabbed the other man in the stomach with an unknown weapon. The victim was able to find a ride to a local hospital to which deputies were dispatched at around 12:45 a.m. Sunday morning. The victim was having trouble breathing and was later treated for a collapsed lung on his left side.
Meanwhile, deputies began searching for Sanchez. They arrived at the apartment complex where the incident took place and eventually located Sanchez sleeping in his truck outside. He was arrested and transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux where he was booked with Aggravated Second Degree Battery. He is being held in lieu of $50,000 bond as set by Judge Walter Lanier III.
