Abandoned car may be connected to Jessica Ridgeway search

Thu, Oct 11, 2012

Police have cordoned off an area behind a Walmart in Portsmouth, New Hampshire and are investigating an abandoned car that may be connected to the search for missing Westminster 10-year-old Jessica Ridgeway.

According to the Seacoast Online newspaper, Police had a K9 unit on scene Thursday morning and were investigating both the car, described as a blue station wagon with Colorado plates, and the area around it.

This news comes a day after police in the town of Dexter, Maine said they received a call from a woman who reportedly saw a girl matching Ridgeway’s description in a similar blue station wagon that also had Colorado plates. Dexter police said the caller reported spotting that vehicle on Sunday, and they also said there was a similar sighting reported in the nearby town of Harmony.

Portsmouth Police Sgt. Kuffer Kaltenborn said the vehicle discovered in New Hampshire Thursday matches the description of the one spotted in Maine. However, he said there is no further information that indicates it’s tied to that case just yet.

Authorities searching for Ridgeway said on Wednesday in Westminster that they have received hundreds of tips from multiple states in the process of their investigation. Ridgeway was last seen leaving her house on her walk to Witt Elementary School at 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 5.

Westminster police discovered a body approximately six miles south of Ridgeway’s home at the Pattridge Park open space area in Arvada on Wednesday. They addressed the media Thursday morning, but did not identify the body or give any indication about if it is related to the search for Ridgeway.
