Suspect Arrested in Attempted Armed Robbery
Lafayette, LA – On September 12, 2012, at approximately 8:00 pm, Lafayette Police responded to the 1600 block of E University Avenue regarding an armed robbery. The victim advised he was at a park in the area when he was approached by the suspect. The suspect produced a knife and demanded money from the victim. The suspect then escorted the victim at knife point to a nearby convenience store to force the victim to remove money from an ATM. While the victim was inside of the store, the victim advised the clerk to contact Lafayette Police. Officers arrived on the scene and apprehended the suspect without incident. The victim was not injured during the robbery.
Lafayette Police arrested Montel Wilridge (19) of Lafayette and charged him with Attempted Armed Robbery, Aggravated Kidnapping and Resisting an Officer.
Wilridge is being held on a $150,000 bond.
The case remains under investigation.
