A 21-year-old pregnant woman and her unborn baby died Tuesday after the woman was shot in front of her Madison Avenue home in Baton Rouge.
The woman, who was five months pregnant, was taken to a hospital after being shot multiple times in the upper torso around noon outside 1734 Madison Ave., near Madison and 18th Street, Cpl. L’Jean McKneely said in a news release. She later died from her injuries.
Investigators say the boyfriend had escaped the scene, but detectives apprehended him a short time later.
Adam Sterling has been charged on suspicion of second degree murder, feticide, illegal use of a weapon and being a felon with a weapon.
Sterling had recently been released from jail on domestic abuse charges in East Baton Rouge Parish.
The victim has been identified as 21-year-old Shylah Hicks.
