Double homicide claims two Louisiana brothers

According to reports, The Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office continued Monday investigating a double homicide that they said left two brothers dead.

Maj. Jason Pleasant said the deaths were reported around 10 p.m. Friday.

Pleasant would not say how the men died.

He said the bodies of Russell Atkins, 38, of Monroe, and Dexter Burkhalter, 41, of Winnsboro, were found at Atkins’ residence at 4541 Winnsboro Road, south of Monroe.

“We do believe it may be a drug-related crime,” Pleasant said, adding that the investigation is ongoing. He declined to give more details.

The bodies were taken to Little Rock, Ark., for autopsies.
